Assist
Features
Everything Assist does, from the answer your visitor sees to the controls you hold behind it.
Answering
What your visitors experience.
Grounded in your content
Answers are built from your pages and documents, retrieved fresh for every question. If your content doesn't cover it, Assist says so politely — it never fabricates facts, numbers, or policies.
Citations on every answer
Each answer links to the pages it was drawn from, as inline links and source chips. Visitors can verify anything in one click — and every citation is a visit to your content.
Streaming answers
Answers stream word by word, with the first words appearing in under a second. Repeat questions hit a per-site answer cache — shared across every page of your site — and return instantly.
Page-aware context
Assist knows which page the visitor is on. Questions that point at it — "is there a limit on this page?", "how do I set this product up?" — are answered against the page they're reading, not the site in general.
Real conversations
Follow-ups work naturally, conversations survive closing the widget, and visitors can pick up where they left off or start fresh. Idle threads expire so stale context never pollutes a fresh question.
Extended conversations
A paid per-site setting for longer threads with a deeper memory — for products where visitors genuinely work through something with the assistant. Deep turns meter at 2× the question rate.
Instant search built in
Results appear as visitors type, before any AI is involved. One box covers both "find me the page" and "answer my question" — replacing your site search outright.
Human handoff built in
When Assist can't answer — or a visitor simply wants a person — it offers to hand over: they leave an email, the whole conversation lands in your support inbox with the transcript attached, and your reply goes straight to them. Answers and leads from one widget.
Content ingestion
How Assist learns what it knows.
Content index from your build
Publish a small JSON index from your site build — the format is a single page of JSON, fully specified in the docs, and most builds emit it in a few dozen lines. Assist polls it hourly and re-ingests automatically whenever your content changes. You control exactly what Assist knows.
Bucket ingestion
Point Assist at an Edge Storage bucket and drop documents in — markdown, plain text, HTML, PDF. Additions, updates, and deletions are picked up incrementally. Perfect for knowledge bases that don't live on a website.
By URL
No build step, no bucket — give Assist your URL and it crawls your site itself, following your sitemap and links, re-crawling on a schedule to stay current. The zero-integration way in.
Always in sync
Ingestion is automatic and continuous. Rebuild your site or update a document, and Assist answers from the new content — the answer cache invalidates itself on every re-ingest.
Up to 10,000 documents
Every site supports up to 10k documents with fast, predictable retrieval. Bigger knowledge base? Our Expert Services team builds custom deployments beyond the cap.
Private knowledge bases
Bucket-backed sites are private by default: anonymous requests are rejected, and access comes from per-site API keys and short-lived visitor tokens your server mints behind your own login. An internal handbook assistant only your team can reach.
Insight & control
You own the answers.
Pinned facts
Short authoritative statements that take precedence over site content — "We ship worldwide except X", "Support hours are Y". One pinned fact fixes every phrasing of a question.
Curated Q&As
For high-stakes questions, write the exact answer yourself. Strong matches return your words verbatim — instantly, without an AI call.
Question log & correction loop
Browse every question visitors ask, see the answer given, and correct it in one click — the correction becomes an override. Your assistant gets better every week you use it.
Metrics & conversations
Questions per day, answer rates, latency, top questions, top unanswered questions, most-cited pages — plus a full conversations explorer to replay any thread.
Answer cache purge
Clear your site's cached answers whenever you need — the whole site or a single question — just like purging a CDN. Free and instant.
Cache pre-warming
Assist reads your content, works out the hundreds of questions visitors are likely to ask, and answers them all ahead of time — so your most-asked questions are instant from the very first visitor. Review the generated list before it runs, and re-warm automatically when your content changes. A paid feature, metered at the normal question rate.
Budgets & caps
Free tier is hard-capped and can never bill you. Paid usage draws from a prepaid budget you set — when it's exhausted the widget falls back to plain search, never to a surprise invoice.
The widget
Fits your site, carries your brand.
Chat launcher
A "How can we help?" bubble that opens straight into a chat with a greeting — everything visitors expect from a chatbot, answered by your content instead of a script. It even inverts its colours automatically over dark page sections.
Modal or embedded
Prefer no bubble? Bind Assist to your own search icon or Cmd+K, open it from any button on your page, or embed it inline in a help centre, docs sidebar, or 404 page. Run several at once — each surface keeps its own conversation.
Launcher prompts
Set the launcher message yourself — or a rotating series: "How can we help?", "Ask about pricing…", "Looking for docs?". Configured per site from your dashboard, applied to live widgets in minutes.
Suggested questions
Show your own starter questions inside the opened panel. One click begins a chat with that question — guide visitors to the answers you know land well.
Full-screen mode
On desktop, visitors can expand the widget to cover the page — chat on the left, a citations rail on the right, including "keep exploring" links you curate per site. On mobile the widget always uses the full screen.
Hosted assistant page
Every site gets a full-page assistant hosted at assist.edge.network — link to it from an email signature, a social bio, or a support menu before you've touched your site's code. Zero integration.
Themable
Colours, position, placeholder text, welcome message — configured from your dashboard, applied instantly, no code changes. Configuration is server-side, so it can't be tampered with in the page.
White-label
Paid sites can remove Edge branding. The white-label add-on goes further: your own assistant name and icon throughout — your visitors meet your assistant, not ours.
Mobile apps
A hosted widget page drops into any in-app browser sheet today. Native SDKs for Swift, Kotlin, React Native, and Flutter follow — same content, same customisation, fully native UI.
Protected by design
Your sitekey is public but origin-locked: the API only answers for it from your own domain, so a lifted key is useless anywhere else. Per-visitor rate limits and hard monthly caps mean bots can't burn your question budget.
Try it before you add it
Assist runs on this site right now — press ⌘K and ask it anything. Then add the same thing to yours, free.
